Monty von Hal

Monty von Hal is a delightful 14 month old Shepherd mix. We guess he’s mixed with sunshine and the Energizer Bunny, because Mr. Monty is all about love at high speed. This guy loves you, playtime and other high-energy fellows like himself. In fact, we are sure his middle name is FUN, because that’s what you will have when you meet Monty! He enjoys his walks, of course, but playgroups are what he lives for. Now it’s true that some other dogs (who just don’t know his heart of gold) warned Monty that they weren’t up for playing, but that doesn’t discourage our boy. He just bounces away and finds other dogs to play with! We admire his resilience and focus, and think you will, too. In his photographs, his sweet, sunshiny nature just shines through; now imagine how glorious that would feel when you meet the real deal! Monty does very well with active dogs and would prefer an active home that allows his best self to shine. He is more than willing to travel out of state.

UPDATE FROM MONTY’S RECENT SLEEPOVER:  “Monty's is active but not hyperactive  . He's easily seduced by a good shoulder rub into some cuddle time but ready for more playtime whenever you are. He's housetrained, knows the “sit” command and has surprisingly good house manners. He found the toy basket in a jiffy and redistributed its contents evenly around the house.  He seems independent, choosing a favorite bed and staying there even when I was in another part of the house. He chose to spend the night on the couch (which is fine with me).  He did amazingly well out walking with two other dogs.  He listened to me and it took only a few corrections to stop him from pulling. When dogs barked at him from behind fences, he went up and tried to play with them. The only time he really pulled was when he saw a cat. I'm guessing they're a no-go for him.  At the dog park he was super submissive, the one that all the chasers chase. I twice had to rescue him from under benches, when his pack of chasers caught up to him. There were plenty of small dogs there so, at a minimum, he has no problem with small dogs. He stuck pretty close to me, checking in frequently.
